Description
This article is a step by step guide on pivot profile creation for Systran V9 Enterprise Server. The pivot profile creation will depend on your licence, you should have this option in your license to be able to create it.
A pivot profile is a combination of 2 profiles with a common language (which will become the pivot language), in order to propose a new translation direction, not available “as is” among the Translation Resources.
In SPN9, you have 2 ways to achieve a Pivot Profile :
1) From the Advanced Configuration menu.
2) From the Profiles menu.
Note that creating a pivot from the Advanced Configuration menu requires SPN9 version 9.5.
Pre-requisite
You must have 1 profile for each of the language pairs that will be used for the Pivot Profile under Profiles tab. If you do not have them, then create them first.
Procedure
1) Example of Pivot creation from the Advanced Configuration menu
In below steps and examples, you will see that I will create a Pivot profile from German to Portuguese (DEPT) using two language pairs DEEN & ENPT. So here English is the common language.
1.1. Click on Create Pivot and wait for the new window to pop up.
1.2. On the new screen, choose the language directions carefully.
In this example we are creating German to Portuguese or DEPT Pivot. Hence, we will choose DEEN first and the ENPT afterwards, so the flow of the translation will be DE -> EN -> PT.
Next click on Submit.
1.3. Now look for the newly created resource, you will see that the Pivot engine created will appear in your search:
1.4. Add one instance, then create a profile from this Pivot TR, and you can try the new pivot translation.
2) Example of Pivot creation from the Profiles menu
2.1. On the new screen, choose the language directions carefully and in the right order
In this example, we are creating Russian to German or RUDE Pivot. Hence, we will choose RUEN first and the ENDE afterwards. So the flow of the translation will be RU -> EN -> DE.
2.2. Next click on Create Pivot option:
You should see a new window pop-up, confirming the flow of translation, click on the Submit button:
2.3. On the next screen, name your profile and click on Submit:
2.4. Give permissions to your profile and you are good to go.
Your newly created profile should appear in the search:
You can now test this pivot profile.
